I’m Ken W. Davis—a wildlife photojournalist and aquatic biologist with a passion for untamed waters and rugged landscapes. I’ve observed, tested, collected, and photographed well over a thousand waterways while fishing, filming, and simply loving our planet’s water sources.
From Streams to Seas: The Algae That Made Life Possible
I specialize in Cyanophyta (blue-green algae), diatoms, and other algal species. As an avid fly-fisher, I’ve studied aquatic invertebrates for many years, combining science with adventure. Marine algae— depending on your information source—are responsible for producing 60–80% of the oxygen on Earth. While I love forests and tropical jungles, they don’t hold that record. Some blue-green algae even created enough oxygen 2,000 million years ago to allow life to exist on the green Earth.
Passion Meets Purpose
My love of waterways, studies of aquatic invertebrates, and extensive travel all converge in one pursuit: fly fishing. It’s the perfect outlet for my passions, letting me connect deeply with nature while pursuing scientific understanding —and life is even better when fishing with Laurie Banks, my dream partner.
